Why "Off the Shelf" Isn't Enough

“But I already have an EMS – PV, battery, wallbox, the whole package.” We hear that often. And it’s true – sort of.

The problem: standard systems usually control themselves via their own energy meters. Each device decides for itself, without knowing the others. Concretely: with a PV surplus of 40 kW, the wallbox grabs it first and charges at full load. The batteries come up empty. When a cloud then passes by, the battery systems try to compensate – uncontrolled, uncoordinated.

With an overarching EMS it looks different: clear priorities, coordinated charge levels, dynamic control in real time. Despite a PV peak of 150 kW, only 1 kW ends up going to the grid in the end – everything else is used sensibly and dynamically for self-consumption.

The difference between an off-the-shelf EMS and an overarching EMS is not a technical detail. It is the difference between reactive and proactive.
