KIS Antriebstechnik Dortmund
An AI-powered energy management system for mid-sized businesses
Our client KIS Antriebstechnik specialises in custom rotational solutions and product development in rolling bearing technology, with sustainability as a core focus.
With its "Mission Energy Autonomy 2027", KIS has set itself an ambitious goal. For its headquarters in Dortmund, the company went all in on cutting-edge tech: a state-of-the-art building that combines (redox) flow batteries, Li-ion batteries, cascading heat pumps, an electrified vehicle fleet, and PV systems in every possible orientation.
The biggest challenge in operating this hardware is the connection to the low-voltage grid.
As enmacs, we had the privilege of building the software for this challenging complexity in an agile partnership: the EMS now orchestrates 3,500 data points, 20 wallboxes, three battery systems, four PV arrays, and modern heating technology across sectors — and optimises them cost-efficiently, while respecting the 120 kW grid limit and a dynamic electricity tariff.
In November 2025 we celebrated the recognition of the project with the prestigious Energy Efficiency Award from the German Energy Agency (dena).
Out of more than 100 entries, we were honoured in the category "From smart to digital! The breadth of energy efficiency" by a high-profile expert jury made up of senior representatives from politics, industry, academia, and media — a great recognition for our tailored EMS.
"Together with our development partners at enmacs GmbH, we connected all the components needed to fully electrify our company — intelligently and in a short time — and integrated around 3,500 data points. With this AI-optimised, open-source-based solution, we want to inspire other companies to take their transformation journey with confidence and to use a tailored EMS as the foundation."
